What beta-alanine is
Beta-alanine is a non-essential amino acid that serves one main job as a supplement: it's the rate-limiting precursor to carnosine, a dipeptide stored in muscle that acts as an intracellular pH buffer. When you train hard, hydrogen ions accumulate and muscle acidity rises, contributing to fatigue; more carnosine buffers more of that acid.
